The NDC ambition has been raised by committing to higher emissions reductions and developing a National Adaptation Plan. CAEP supported ambition through:

Providing technical assistance to quantify baseline emissions and reduction pathways by sector, feeding into a shortlisting of relevant mitigation options.
Supporting a policy review of best practices and recommendations as it relates to opportunities, risks, and impacts of sub-sector contributions to emissions reductions for the NDC, including through economic incentives.
Supporting capacity building in data management, emissions reduction potential and reporting on greenhouse gases.

The NDC’s targets are based on more robust data and analysis, backed by a coordinated implementation strategy and aligned with the SDGs. CAEP supported NDC quality by:

Providing technical support for the establishment of a mechanism to systematically collect, manage, and analyze data for GHG projection and target setting within the Central Data Storage Facility of the National Environment Information System.
Supporting an analysis of current tax regime, gathering data on tax revenues and recommending possible future tax schemes that would result in reduced emissions, as well as alignment with SDGs.

CAEP support

Saint Lucia followed an inclusive revision process, ensuring the NDC is publicized and shared with the wider society and considering strategies to reduce impacts of climate change on vulnerable groups.

CAEP supported the development of materials for a broadcast of a Public Service Announcement (PSA), which focused on the NDC revision, and plans that country has to achieve its NDC targets.
