Mali’s NDC revised its energy sector targets and, through an extensive assessment of the sector, identified opportunities to enhance its national climate ambition.

CAEP supported an assessment of renewable energy potential in Mali that identified the best zones to develop solar and wind projects. Backed by IRENA’s cost-optimized scenarios, Mali is now planning to install 1416 MW of additional renewable by 2030.

Mali’s NDC targets is based on more robust energy modelling, conducting a target costing analysis and an MRV system to track progress.

CAEP’s support included a capacity building component, training 20 experts from Mali’s energy sector in the scenario design and analysis of model results.
CAEP supported the development of guidance on the selection process of public investment projects and programs, building capacity within Mali’s Ministry of Economy and Finance for climate and budget monitoring.
CAEP provided guidance to the Government of Mali for monitoring and evaluation of public investment projects and programs according to an MRV scheme.
