CAEP support

Laos expanded the scope of their targets and conducted vulnerability assessments to inform adaptation planning.

CAEP supported a national level Land Resources Information Management Systems (LRMIS) which models future climate scenarios and projected crop suitability maps.
Additionally, CAEP provided technical assistance for mapping of vulnerable areas to natural hazards and disasters, such as floods and climate change risk. District and provincial level authorities were trained to use it within local level planning.

The NDC’s targets are based on in-depth analysis, new modelling techniques and robust data collection, backed by stronger institutional arrangements and tracked by the country’s MRV system.

Laos Climate Services for Agriculture (LaCSA) system data has been developed with the support of CAEP. It includes a Drought Index which assesses real-time vulnerability to drought, probability of their occurrence and risk of pest and disease outbreaks.
World Bank’s support for Laos strengthened the technical and management capacity of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), to facilitate their cooperation with other relevant ministries. This was done through mainstreaming of the NDC actions into national development planning processes and providing trainings on climate modelling techniques.
In developing the monitoring and reporting framework for NDC targets, CAEP’s support aimed to promote national ownership and accountability of the NDC targets.

CAEP support

Laos’ NDC emphasized the importance of gender responsive climate action and improving education around the impacts of climate change.

CAEP financed training sessions and workshops on the nexus between NDC actions and climate change impacts, with a particular focus on gender issues. The aim of the sessions was to disseminate practices that mainstream climate and gender into development planning.
