CAEP support

Jamaica enhanced its quantitative and qualitative emissions reduction targets, while also developing its NDC alongside a long-term low emissions development strategy. CAEP support target this through:

Analytical support for delivering a technology needs assessment to strengthen Jamaica's Renewable Energy NAMA and the Water Sector NAMA.
Technical support for developing Jamaica’s low-emissions strategy, and for developing an overarching climate-policy package and relevant considerations for climate-action implementation towards 2050.

CAEP support

The quality of Jamaica’s NDC has been enhanced through extensive review of funding options and costing analysis of its climate action, as well as capacity building for mitigation and adaptation modeling. CAEP support included:

Analytical support for costing the implementation of each of the adaptation and mitigation emission reduction plans. Outputs fed into determining the feasibility, resource requirements and provided a list of potential domestic, regional, and international financing options.
Supporting socio-economic and financial assessment of climate change impacts through the development of climate expenditure analyses and modelling. A training session on the use of these climate models was conducted with approximately 25 government officials and relevant stakeholders.
Delivering capacity building and outreach on mitigation and adaptation modeling.

CAEP support

Process was made more inclusive by considering the gender-specific impacts of climate change and validating the implementation process with key stakeholders.

Supporting the preparation of communication material to publicize Jamaica’s NDC, including creation of the video of its launch event.

Facilitated stakeholder engagement through several processes, including the development 2050 emissions pathway scenarios, an assessment of opportunities to participate in international emissions markets and other funding mechanisms, and the production of two technical reports (‘Assessing Institutional Capacity in Jamaica to Implement the Long-term Low Emissions and Climate Resilience Strategy’ and ‘International carbon markets as an opportunity for financing mitigation activities in Jamaica’.
