Ambition was enhanced through expanding the quantitative and qualitative targets within the energy sector. CAEP supported:

The development of an NDC Roadmap for the energy sector which outlined actions to achieve reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as an implementation strategy for energy efficiency measures.
Technical assistance for selecting qualitative measures based on the vulnerability and risk assessment of the energy sector. The measures also highlighted co-benefits between activities within sub-sectors electric mobility, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and bioenergy.

CAEP support

NDC quality was enhanced through improved modeling, involving subnational actors in implementation and establishing an MRV system. CAEP support included:

Delivering analytical support for energy systems modeling for delivering mitigation scenarios in the energy system.
Technical assistance and stakeholder engagement for subnational actors to resulting in a high-level report on possible regional (SICA) GHG emissions targets, including indicators and a roadmap outlining the key policies necessary to achieve the targets.
Technical recommendations on the design of the MRV system for the energy sector, consistent with the national MRV system and tracking of the NDC.
