Ethiopia strengthened its ambition through analyzing green economy and national development pathways that embrace low-carbon and climate resilient transformation. CAEP support featured through:

Supporting the development of an updated NDC aligned to the development of a 10 year national development plan.
Providing technical support to enhance national experts’ understanding of analytical tools and their use to mainstream climate and disaster risks.

Quality of the NDC was enhanced through higher robustness of economic and emissions modelling and data collection for the MRV system. CAEP support included:

Providing analytical support on assessing socioeconomic impacts, natural capital impacts and climate system in Ethiopia through economic modeling. This initiative fostered in-country modeling capacity building for future government planning exercises.
Capacity building on tracking progress on mitigation actions through an improved MRV system.

CAEP support

The 2020 NDC revision was a transparent process, which was disseminated to the wider society to raise awareness and increase public engagement.

CAEP supported included providing clarity on data and assumptions and ensuring the government officials responsible for delivering commitments were involved the target setting process.
Support additionally includes technical assistance for designing knowledge products and awareness raising materials to demonstrate Ethiopia’s NDC ambitions across stakeholders.
