CAEP support

The NDC’s adaptation targets are more ambitious, covering a greater scope of sectors and aligning with long-term projections and analyses. CAEP supported this through:

Providing technical support for developing an Action Plan for priority sectors to deliver on the NDC targets. The Plans identified gaps, barriers, greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation potential and adaptation needs.
Analytical support for designing a long-term strategy for decarbonization of the transport, energy, and environment sectors. The project generated energy and AFOLU marginal abatement cost curves that informed the country's more ambitious NDC submitted in 2020. The cost curves were also disseminated to 30-35 government staff.

CAEP support

The NDC enhanced its implementation and financial planning, through extensive capacity building, preparation of the Climate Finance Strategy and expansion of the national MRV system. CAEP’s support targeted this through:

Supporting workshops for engaging local governments in NDC implementation. The workshops covered key concepts of climate change such as mitigation and adaptation, risk and vulnerability, action plans and financing.
Providing technical support in the form of an implementation tool, the Climate Change Institutional Assessment Diagnostic. It was presented at a workshop of 70 government and non-government stakeholders (46% women). CAEP continues to provide analytical tools to design the institutional framework for implementing the country's NDC.
Supporting the preparation of a portfolio of investment projects to include in the climate finance strategy for NDC implementation.
Technical support and capacity building to develop and implement institutional arrangements for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and reporting in the energy sector.

CAEP support

The revision process of the NDC was widely disseminated to increase awareness and public engagement.

CAEP supported the design of a website for the NDC revision process (www.ndcrd.com) as well as supplied communications materials for press and audiovisuals from the technical and national events were also developed. Overall, it is estimated that the stakeholder participation processes reached over 100 institutions and 500 participants.
Additional communication materials were disseminated to the wider public through TV, radio and webinars, reaching approximately 100,000 people.
