CAEP support

Benin’s NDC enhanced its target ambition and expanded the coverage of gasses.

CAEP provided technical assistance to build out a database of mitigation measures based on a review of existing plans and regulations, consultations with key stakeholders and data collection to enhance the emissions inventories.
CAEP supported the development of the national profile of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP), greenhouse gases and air pollutants for Benin, providing recommendations for the revised NDC.

CAEP support

Benin strengthened its NDC implementation process defining institutional arrangements, enhancing its MRV system, identifying technical assistance gaps and planning for capacity building to overcome them.

CAEP supported the establishment of a national environmental IT data archiving system, as well as delivered capacity building on tailoring modeling tools, analytical support for streamlining fiscal tools to promote a low-carbon economy.
Alongside revising the emissions inventories and improving the data collection process, CAEP supported the strengthening of the MRV system to enable Benin to monitor its NDC progress.
CAEP is additionally supporting capacity building across government on streamlining public expenditure approaches for financing climate change at the national and subnational levels. This is planned to focus on agriculture, energy, and land use (LULUCF).

CAEP supported a series of gender integration workshops in coordination with the development of the National Adaptation Plan.
Additionally provided analytical support on assessing the socioeconomic impacts of projects and sectoral actions contained within the NDC.
